July is always a notable month for NFL teams. Training camp begins. Preparation is never unnoticed when it comes to playing quarterback in the pros, though, and a young New Orleans Saints QB is determined to put the time in to try to win the starting job for head coach Kellen Moore.
Spencer Rattler's throwing session with receivers
Earlier in the offseason, Rattler missed out on a throwing sessions with his fellow quarterbacks and wide receivers. He was hosting his annual youth football camp. With that, Rattler made sure to get a throwing sessions in with his receivers ahead of training camp.
The prior sessions involved all of the QBs on the Saints roster, other than Rattler. Additionally, wideouts, both young and veteran, were in attendance. It was a tough break for Rattler to miss that workout, but he got back to work with his teammates recently, clearly.
Wideouts Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Brandin Cooks, among others were all in attendance. Cooks organized the session for everyone to create some extra preparation for the 2025 season. -- A to Z Sports
Rattler is committed to trying to win this competition for New Orleans. We will see if his commitment ends up helping him get the job over rookie QB Tyler Shough.
QB battle set to ramp up in training camp
The Saints report to training camp on July 22nd. With limited time remaining in the offseason, the pressure will only increase for both Shough and Rattler.
The latter has some NFL experience with his time as the starter in 2024, but the rookie was taken in the second round for a reason. Kellen Moore has plenty of confidence in Shough. We will see how the QB battle shakes out for his offense.
The Saints will not have joint practices previously scheduled with the Los Angeles Chargers. Instead, they will just be practicing at UC Irvine in California for nine days (August 6-August 15). Kellen Moore discussed this outcome last week, but the NFL made it official this week.
