New Orleans Saints Reach Decision On New Head Coach

For weeks the New Orleans Saints have been the lone NFL team without a head coach. But their long search and even longer wait appears to have reached its conclusion.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Saints are ready to hire Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their new head coach. Per the report, the Saints have known for a while that Moore would be the guy but wanted to hold off on announcing anything to avoid any accusations of tampering with a team still in the middle of its NFL season.

"Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is expected to become the New Orleans Saints' head coach, barring any unexpected developments, league sources told ESPN," Schefter wrote on ESPN.com.

"Moore has been the top candidate for the vacant Saints job since completing a pair of interviews with New Orleans last month."

Moore was a star college quarterback at Boise State who played sparingly in the NFL before ultimately being hired as the Dallas Cowboys' quarterbacks coach after he retired. He proved to have a knack for the job, instantly building a rapport with Dak Prescott and earning a promotion to full offensive coordinator within a year.

Moore was retained for the role after the team parted ways with head coach Jason Garrett following the 2019 season. He stayed in the position until the end of the 2022 season.

Moore parted ways with the team to become the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers for one season and was hired by the Eagles for the same job this past year

At 36 years of age, he will be the youngest head coach that the Saints have ever hired and the youngest head coach in the NFL next season.

He takes over a team that is in vital need of a shot in the arm on offense. Whether that shot in the arm comes with or without incumbent starter Derek Carr remains to be seen.

Though there's about a 50-50 chance that Moore joins the Saints as a newly-minted Super Bowl champion.
