New York Jets and Garrett Wilson Reach Historic $130 Million Extension
The New York Jets have taken an enormous step towards securing their bright star at wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, by signing a hefty four-year, $130 million extension, with a whopping $90 million guaranteed to be paid out. It is the first historic deal: ESPN has reported that Wilson will represent the first receiver in NFL history to earn more than $31 million per season after only three seasons in the NFL.

Garrett Wilson’s Rise to Stardom
Garrett Wilson was selected at number 10 in 2022, and it took him no time to become one of the best receivers in the league. He becomes the first Jets of all time to make more than 1,000 receiving yards during his first three seasons, having 279 catches, 3,249 yards receiving, and 14 touchdowns to date. He broke career highs in receiving in 2024, recording 101 receptions, 1,104 yards, and seven receiving touchdowns. Even though the team was constantly unstable at the position of quarterback.
The Justin Fields Connection
The Jets have conducted the swap of their quarterback as they brought Justin Fields to the team, so it’s only logical to ask how successful the tandem of Wilson and Fields will be, at least in the short-term perspective. Yet, this looks optimistic. Fields and Wilson played alongside each other at Ohio State, with the former throwing the latter 1,201 yards on 11 scores across two years. Last season, Wilson hauled in 43 receptions, 723 yards, and six touchdowns in only eight games with Fields as quarterback.

Now both with NFL experience and the fact that they have their collegiate chemistry, this could be the making of a great chapter for the New York Jets.
Fantasy and Franchise Impact
The extension officially solidifies Wilson as one of the best receivers in the league and in fantasy football. He is currently being drafted as WR15 in the third round due to his talent and the instability of the Jets at the quarterback situation.
As far as the Jets are concerned, this is a great investment on their part. With both Garrett Wilson secured to a long-term contract and Justin Fields at signal-caller, New York is locking in on stability and star power to bring them back into playoff relevance.
