New York Jets give Justin Fields the vote of confidence to be starter: "He fits perfectly"

Everyone believed that because of the conditions in which Justin Fields arrived at the New York Jets, he was going to be considered from the beginning as the undisputed starter in the quarterback position after the departure of Aaron Rodgers, but within the team they wanted to sell the idea that there would be a battle for the starting job.

There will be no dispute in the Jets

That version was not credible, as the 26-year-old QB was to be opposed by veteran Tyrod Taylor and the very green Adrian Martinez and Jordan Travis, who lack the mileage to seek to compete for the team's controls in the midst of a difficult situation and a defining season, after the fiasco of the previous ones.

It was new Jets general manager Darren Mougey who told the media gathered for the NFL's annual meeting in Palm Beach that Fields will start for the New York Jets and has the vote to seek to establish himself there, after a disappointing stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers - where he was replaced by Russell Wilson - after three seasons with the Chicago Bears, the team that drafted him in the 2021 Draft.

"We believe in him": Darren Mougey

"We believe Justin is the starter. We believe in Justin. We believe we can win with him, so we're excited about that reality," Mougey said of the QB, who has held a two-year, $40 million contract since March 10, $30 million of which is guaranteed.

And he added: "Justin is a young, talented quarterback with unique athletic skills that give him another dimension to the game (...) That and then delving into the person, getting to know him, his leadership: it was a perfect fit".

Just after the statements of his manager, the New York Jets made it known to the press that they have so much confidence in Fields, that they believe he has the necessary elements to sign a career similar to that of Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield, who are on the doorstep of greater stardom in the NFL.
