NFL coach points out how major Saints change can help Alvin Kamara look like himself again

The NFL offseason is full of rankings. Players laugh at them sometimes. Fans get quite upset at them at times. For the New Orleans Saints, one of their veterans got named on an intriguing list of rankings.

Via ESPN, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler broke down a survey given to league executives, coaches, and scouts. That survey ranks top 10 players at different positions. Check out his description for how they come to their rankings below.

With 2024 NFL training camps on the horizon, it is again time for the league's true insiders to make their voices heard. ESPN surveyed league executives, coaches and scouts to help us rank the top 10 players at 11 different positions, from quarterback to cornerback and all positions in between. This is the fifth edition of these rankings, and as usual, several players have moved up or fallen off last year's lists.

Kamara named honorable mention for top 10 RB

Kamara has been a fixture in the top 10, ranking as high as No. 2 in 2021, but Kamara's production has been less efficient in recent seasons. He has averaged 3.87 yards per carry since 2021, which is good enough for 830 yards per season. "He might have hit a wall a little bit," an NFL running backs coach said. "He's still a great all-purpose back and can run all the different schemes, has burst and contact. But the production hasn't been there. Though I think [offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's] system will be really good for him." -- Jeremy Fowler, ESPN+

Plenty of good points made here from some respected minds around the NFL. Kamara's usage and efficiency over the past two seasons have been real head scratchers for fans of the Saints and folks that cover the sport.

Everyone knows his physical talent - the patience and agility he possesses that many others do not.

That being said, the play-calling and decisions from his quarterbacks have seemingly put him in more of a bind once he gets the ball. There have been times where he has gotten frustrated in those scenarios, but he's also been one of the most abatable running backs in football, albeit taking a lot of hits.

All in all, Klint Kubiak will be a more modern coordinator for Kamara and the Saints. He's already noted how space can be so valuable when it comes to scheming up successful offense. Said space is exactly what a player like Kamara needs.

He can make up ground if necessary as long as he's not having to deal with contact as swoon as he touches the football.

More of those opportunities are seemingly coming to the veteran running back with a new play-caller in New Orleans.
