If you're a fan of a team in the AFC South, let alone the Houston Texans, then you know all about the whole Tennessee Titans-Houston Oilers debacle. Long story short, the Houston Oilers were in town for quite some time. Then, they decided to move to Memphis Tennessee, where they would be there for a short time before now becoming the Tennessee Titans.
The Houston Texans are technically a separate franchise and do not own the history of that franchise. However, the Titans love wearing the Houston Oilers merchandise and throwback gear, just to rub it in the Texans' face. It's a long debate. But, long story short, again, the Texans have tried to wear uniforms similar to the Oilers because they do have that Houston blue on them from the city flag, and an oil rig is a Texas thing, not Tennessee.
Last season, the Titans wore the throwback uniforms, changed their home field, and rubbed it all in the Texans' face against the Texans. Fortunately for Houston, it backfired in the Titans' face, as they won the game without their starting quarterback and two best wide receivers. It was embarrassing for the Titans, but, now they are being embarrassed again.
The NFL released each team's Mount Rushmore or the four best and most iconic players in that team's history. The NFL listed the Titans' Mount Rushmore, and all four just so happened to be Houston Oilers players, like Earl Campbell, Bruce Mathews, Warren Moon, and Steve McNair.
If you're a Texans fan and you have debated the great debate with a Titans fan, you have to love seeing this. Not only are the Titans your biggest rival ever, but you also feel like they stole your history, and then the NFL posts that their four best players are players who actually played for your former team, in that iconic Houston blue, and not for the Titans.
The NFL pretty much just helped the Texans.
