NHL Insider Drops Massive Update on Sabres' JJ Peterka Future
The Buffalo Sabres are entering the NHL offseason as one of the more interesting teams across the league. After missing the postseason yet again, the Sabres front office understands that it needs to put together a strong summer.
Buffalo finished the year toward the bottom of the Atlantic Division with a record of 36-39-7. But heading into the offseason, the Sabres want to be much more competitive to end the 14-year playoff drought.
There have been all sorts of rumors going around this Sabres team, and the front office is expected to be very active. This includes both on the free agent market and the trade market, with the Sabres having some players who could interest other squads.
And according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Buffalo is now listening to trade offers for JJ Peterka. Peterka is a restricted free agent, but it seems that he could be dealt in a potential sign-and-trade situation.
Over 77 games for the Sabres this past season, Peterka scored 27 goals and 41 assists. The young wing could likely net Buffalo a decent trade return, and there have been rumors that the Sabres would prefer to move on from him.
Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams has pushed back on this a little, but other teams remain very interested in him. If the two sides can't agree to a new deal, Buffalo would then look to send him elsewhere.
But for now, Buffalo is simply listening to offers for the young player. It remains to be seen if he will be traded, but it can't hurt the Sabres to see what they could get as a return.
