Patrick Guay the Vegas Golden Knights 2022 fifth-round pick was not signed before the June 1st, 5:00 P.M. deadline.
The 5'9, 179 lbs forward played this past season between the Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL and the Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL. In the ECHL he's been productive, scoring 11 goals and 29 points in 25 games. In the AHL it's been a different story. He recorded just one assist in 16 games and in the season before he registered just two goals and five points in 17 games.
In his draft year, Guay scored 55 goals and 104 points in 68 games with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.
The 22-year-old's small frame mixed with his struggles to produce in the AHL was enough for the Golden Knights to make the decision to part ways.
Guay was always going to have a tough hill to climb to make it to the NHL. He was drafted as an over-ager and in the fifth round. He still has the skill set to play in the AHL but needs to find a way to produce.
The next stage of Guay's career is a vital one.
