The World Championship opened on Friday in Czechia, and it was a quiet day for the Penguins players involved.
Marcus Pettersson had the lone point by any Penguin on Friday, the secondary helper on a Marcus Johansson goal. It was Sweden's third goal in a 5-2 win over the United States.
Pettersson was a plus-3 in 17:02 in the win on Sweden's third defense pairing. Erik Karlsson was scoreless and a plus-1 in 20:56 on the top pairing.
Alex Nedeljkovic, who was a late addition to the U.S. roster this week, didn't dress in the loss.

• Jesse Puljujarvi, Valtteri Puustinen and Finland were shut out 1-0 in a shootout loss to Czechia. Puljujarvi was one of Finland's shooters in the shootout but failed to score. Puustinen skated in 18:26 on the right side of Finland's top line and Puljujarvi played 16:14 on the right side of the second line.
• Penguins NHL-contracted minor-league forward Maxim Cajkovic didn't play in Slovakia's 6-4 loss to Germany.
• None of the other teams involving Penguins players were in action in Friday's opening day.
• There are three games involving Penguins players on Saturday:
Canada, featuring Michael Bunting and associate general manager Kyle Dubas, plays Great Britain at 6:20 a.m. Eastern.
Raivis Ansons and Latvia play Poland at 10:20 a.m.
The U.S., with Nedeljkovic on the roster and Ty Hennes behind the bench as an assistant coach, plays Germany at 2:20 p.m.
