The Las Vegas Raiders have done a lot to upgrade their offensive roster this offseason, but haven't invested as many resources into the defense. Cornerback was a big need, and the team didn't do much to fill it.
The Raiders did add Darien Porter in the third round of the draft, but he's a converted wide receiver who doesn't have much experience at cornerback. He could be a great player eventually, but it might take a year or two for him to get more comfortable on the defensive side of the ball.
If Las Vegas isn't feeling great about their current cornerback room, there are still some appealing options in free agency.
Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey is going to get traded soon, and he's likely the best option available. While he's expressed interest in Las Vegas in the past, it sounds like the Raiders aren't interested.
Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal was asked if the Raiders will trade for Smith, but they currently have no plans to.
"Ramsey is not on the Raiders’ radar," Bonsignore wrote. "(Mike) Hilton could be someone they look at."
Ramsey would be a big upgrade for Las Vegas, but he's going to cost assets in a trade and is likely looking for a big contract extension. A player like Hilton is a free agent, so he'd be cheap and easy to sign.
He likely wouldn't have the impact of Ramsey, but the Raiders don't seem keen on spending big on veterans this offseason as they save some money for next year.
