Trading K’Andre Miller does not appear to be out of the picture for the New York Rangers.

With Miller set to become a restricted free agent this summer, there’s been a lot of chatter about how the Rangers plan to handle his contract situation.

However, Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury is reportedly exploring all options regarding Miller’s future in New York.

“There are some other defensemen out there and one of them people said to me is K’Andre Miller,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said. “That it’s not a guarantee, but they are testing the market on K’Andre Miller. They want to know what it is, so we’ll see where it goes, but his name is definitely out there.”

This comes after we saw a regression in Miller’s play during the 2024-25 season and doubts of his ultimate potential have begun to creep in.

The 25-year-old defenseman was once seen as a future cornerstone piece of the franchise, but that sentiment has shifted recently.

It’s been Miller’s glaring holes in his defensive game that has been a topic of conversation and criticism.

Now, it’s unclear if the Rangers are willing to commit to Miller on a long-term contract extension or even keep him on the roster going into the 2025-26 campaign under new head coach Mike Sullivan.

During his exit interview, Miller expressed his love for the Rangers and desire to stay in New York long into the future.

“Kind of hard to talk about my future here,” Miller said. “I have a great agent who is going to help me throughout this summer’s process. I love being a New York Ranger. I think this has been some of the best years of my life. These past five years have been unforgettable in about every aspect you can think of. That’s all I really have to comment on.”

The ball may not be in Miller’s court at this point anymore. It’s up to Drury to determine what the future holds for Miller which will be one of the biggest storylines for the Blueshirts this offseason.
