Rangers Convey Positive Message Despite Epic Collapse Against Kraken - Yahoo Sports

The New York Rangers blew a two-goal lead en route to a brutal 7-5 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Sunday afternoon.

Through the first half of this game, the Rangers couldn’t have been more perfect.

New York played some of their best hockey of the season today as they were generating a ton of offensive chances and completely controlled the pace of the game.

At the midway point of the second period, the Rangers held a 3-1 lead with goals from Reilly Smith, Filip Chytil and Vincent Trocheck.

All of the sudden though, everything seemed to change.

Seattle scored three unanswered goals to close out the second period and found the back of the net to start the third, gaining a 6-3 lead over New York.

The Rangers attempted to mount a comeback and came pretty close in climbing their way back, but it was just too little too late.

Even with an inexcusable choke from the Rangers, players in the locker room were happy with the way they played and conveyed a more positive message.

“You got to stay positive at times like this,” Trocheck said. “Make sure that we know what we’re capable of. Like we played in the third period, I feel like we played like a team that knew we could come back from down two or three goals. That’s the sense we had in the room.”

Adam Fox believes there is still a confidence within the team despite this recent stretch of losses.

“The confidence is still there in the group,” Fox said. “It takes a little bit of a hit when you win one, lose one. You can’t get that roll going of wins, but we are trying to stay positive and have that positive energy.”

It’s still unacceptable to give up seven goals in your own building. It was a very winnable game that slipped out of New York’s hands. It’s as simple as that.

“If you go back and look at it, the chances, all of them were the goals,” Peter Laviolette said. “At those points in the game, we needed to defend better than what we did. We had the pieces in place, and it just it was a little bit too loose. That looseness cost us.”

The Rangers will be back in action on Monday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
