Raymond scored for Sweden early in the second period to help his team claim a 5-2 win against USA in their opening tournament game.  Lyon stopped 23 of 26 shots as USA fought back to make it 3-2 in the third period.

Former Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic also was named to this team. However, he was injured in the pre-tournament camp and returned to the United States. No replacement has yet been named.

The Americans had a power play with under three minutes left in regulation.  They pulled Lyon with just under a minute to go in the man advantage. The Swedes scored two empty netters to clinch the victory.

Detroit’s Jeff Petry played on USA’s third pairing with Chicago Blackhawks’ Alex Vlasic. Petry had an even plus-minus. Detroit oach Derek Lalonde is handing the American power play as John Hynes’ assistant.

Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, Luke Hughes and Jake Sanderson received the bulk of the defensive minutes. Columbus player Werenski scored one of USA’s goals. Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders had the other American goal.

Michigan State goalie Trey Augustine, a Detroit draft pick, was Lyon’s backup goalie.
