Red Sox’ Dаnny Jаnsen reаdy to mаke ‘сool’ һіstory

There has been plenty of speculation about “history being made” as the Red Sox are scheduled to resume their rain-shortened game against the Blue Jays in the first game of a day-night doubleheader on Monday at Fenway Park.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora re-confirmed on Sunday that he plans to play catcher Danny Jansen in Monday’s resumed game against Toronto. Jansen, who Boston acquired from the Blue Jays on July 27, will become the first big league player to appear for both teams in the same game.

“From all the pressure I’ve received from your peers (the media), I felt obligated for (Jansen) to play tomorrow,” Cora said. “But it works out because Reese McGuire is catching, and Connor Wong is set to catch the second game.”

Jansen was actually hitting for Toronto on June 26 when the Red Sox and Blue Jays’ game here at Fenway was suspended in the top of the second inning due to heavy rain. He was down 0-1 in the count against Boston starter Kutter Crawford.

The game is set to resume on Monday at 2:05 p.m.

But with the Red Sox 4 ½ games behind the Twins for the final wildcard spot and 33 regular-season games remaining on their schedule, Jansen is more focused on the bigger picture.

“I’m just going to put my head down and play,” he said. “It’s definitely a cool thing. But at the end of the day, I want to win a ball game and do everything I can to prepare for it. But the goal is to put your stamp in the game any way you can.

“So for mine to be this, that will be cool.”
