Red Wings Make Major Patrick Kane Announcement on Friday

They also witnessed future Hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Kane make history.

On the same night that Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin tied Wayne Gretzky's record for most goals ever in the NHL, the 36-year-old Kane made a mark himself by breaking his tie with Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano for most 20-goal seasons in the league by a U.S.-born player. Modano had 16 such seasons during his time in the NHL, while Kane now has 17 to his name.

The Red Wings, of course, celebrated that feat -- and more -- following their 5-3 victory over Carolina.

"Most 20-goal seasons by a U.S. born player in NHL history + his 100th point as a Red Wing," Detroit's post on X read.

Kane, who won three Stanley Cup titles with the Chicago Blackhawks, woke up on Friday with 19 goals and 33 assists in the 2024-25 NHL regular season.

He scored his 20th goal of the campaign in the second period to put the Red Wings ahead by two – and give himself another sparkling addition to his incredible hockey resume.

The Red Wings improved to 35-33-7 (77 points) with their win against Carolina. They are four points out of the last spot wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
