Red Wings Predicted to Make Big Trade With Penguins

Both the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins have seen better days. Each franchise was once a true title contender, and recent years haven't been kind to the two teams.

However, the two sides could come together on a potential trade that could be beneficial for each. It would involve veteran wing Bryan Rust, whom the Penguins could look to move due to the rebuild that they are in.

Pittsburgh has been talking with teams about potential deals, and the Red Wings make a lot of sense as a trade partner.

According to NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report, the Red Wings could be one of the better landing spots for Rust. Gretz predicted some landing spots if Pittsburgh does end up moving on from the veteran wing.

"This might be one of the most sensible options for several reasons.

"For one, Detroit needs to do something significant this offseason. The Red Wings have been way too quiet for a team that should be desperate to make the playoffs, and could use Rust's two-way ability," Gretz wrote.

Adding an offensive player like Rust to the mix could give this Red Wings team a major boost moving forward. Detroit has been looking for a splash move, and this could be exactly what they have been searching for.

Last season with the Penguins, Rust scored 31 goals and 34 assists over 71 games played. Rust put together a career-year for Pittsburgh, and the team may now want to sell high on his value across the league.

The veteran has three seasons left on his current deal, including the upcoming year. Detroit could use him to build forward, and he would give them an explosive offensive piece to work with.
