According to The Athletic, the Philadelphia Flyers have called the Carolina Hurricanes to inquire about trading for forward Martin Necas.
Necas has arguably been the most talked about player on the trade market besides Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner. The 25-year-old is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights, but the writing seems to be on the wall that he will be dealt out of Carolina.
The Vancouver Cancks are just one of many reported teams that have checked in on Necas. Based on Elliotte Friedman's report that the Hurricanes won't take a deal that involves just Canucks defenseman, Filip Hronek, that means the price to acquire him is through the roof.
Flyers GM Danny Briere spoke with Pierre LeBrun about what moves Philadelphia could make this offseason. With a lot of dead cap on the books this season, Briere ruled out some free-agent movement but added that the team is open for trades.
"I would say don't expect much movement from us, as far as free agency," Briere told LeBrun. "But you know, we're always open to hockey trades if there's something that makes sense to help our team, both in the future but also in the short term if it fits our timeline."
LeBrun also noted that he doesn't think a trade to acquire Necas would work, given the Hurricanes' desire for an "apples-to-apples" return.
