Brynn Whitfield’s parents both served time
A running theme throughout the first season was the troubling childhoods of several cast members, which Jessel Taank tried to join in on with little success.
Brynn was born to Alton Duane and Jill Marie Mitchell, though she only lived with them for six months. Her father was in and out of prison until the mid-90s but turned his life around with a degree and seven more kids.
Brynn’s mother put her and her brother up for adoption at six months old before she served time in prison for a variety of financial crimes. As a result, Brynn was raised by a grandmother Darlene, who she spoke about very kindly on the show.
Though Brynn’s early life was full of hardship, she did manage to reconnect with her father in the months leading up to his death. Sadly, she still has no contact with her mother who is said to be living with a new family and four new kids.
Brynn has been engaged three times
Brynn’s love life became a central theme throughout her first season as she was celebrated online for her vulgar and completely candid approach to men and dating.
A baddie through and through, Brynn was engaged three times before her reality TV debut, with one of them being to Gideon Lang-Laddie, who appeared on an episode of the show.
“He’s literally a Prince Charming,” Brynn said of Gideon. “I didn’t open a door for five years. I didn’t pick up one tab. I can’t even stand up at a dinner table without him jumping up.”
The two eventually called it quits, though both seemed completely smitten with one another during the episode.
Outside of her three engagements, Brynn has been very open about her attraction for co-star Jenna Lyons, her dalliance with several NFL players, and her very active love life.
What does Brynn Whitfield do?
Another running joke during her RHONY inception was Brynn’s somewhat vague and mysterious job, which host Andy Cohen questioned Brynn about during the reunion.
Though she called herself a “corporate comms & marketing consultant” on her Instagram bio, that short sentence does not even begin to encompass all of her business ventures. She has designed award-winning PR and marketing campaigns for companies like Shell Oil, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, and Assembly, but has also worked as a brand ambassador for a range of lifestyle brands.
Outside of her packed work schedule, Brynn is a well-known sociality in the New York scene who lends her name and experience to a host of events and groups. She is particularly fond of the New York Metropolitan Opera, by all accounts
Her lavish job has also birthed an impressive net worth, so much so that she is able to drop everything for a sunny vacation if she sees fit.
Her first season of RHONY was one to remember

Our first introduction to Brynn was during an argument about a cast dinner, which somewhat set her up as the cheeky troublemaker of the season.
Though she seemed to click with most of the other Housewives, she did clash with both Erin and Sai De Silva on more than one occasion. Her favorite new friend was undoubtedly Jenna Lyons, which pushed some to call her a “social climber.”
Outside of cast drama and her heartbreaking backstory, Brynn won over fans with the winning combination of brains and beauty. From searching for antique books to inspiring lines and surprising admissions, she continued to add layers of depth to her character.
Here’s to hoping that season 15 of The Real Housewives of New York City is just as Brynn Whitfield-centric as the last season.
