RHONY’s Rebecca Minkoff Reflects on Illustrious Fashion Career: ‘Nostalgia Is In’

Rebecca Minkoff may be a newer face on Real Housewives of New York, but she’s a veteran in the world of fashion. She just celebrated the 20th anniversary of her brand name and has realized that “nostalgia is in” and allows classics to live forever.

For Rebecca, the classic is the Morning After Bag. It’s the bag that started it all and it’s become a staple in women’s wardrobes over the years. Even after evolving trends and new ideas, the bag has stayed a beloved classic that never goes out of style.

Rebecca Minkoff reflects on nostalgia and the future of fashion

“It feels like I’ve lived so many lifetimes in the 20 years, but at the same time, I feel like we’re just getting started,” she shared in an interview with E!. “The bag and what it symbolizes are still very relevant to women. As a brand, we cater to women aspiring to live in an urban city. We want the handbag to be relevant to her story.”

She’s grateful her bags resonate with women today juggling families, careers, and everything in between, despite the shade she may have gotten from a fellow housewife. One of her favorite things is when the pieces span generations. “It’s cool seeing moms and daughters sharing stories. The daughters getting their first designer bag, while the moms are still fans.”

Rebecca is thrilled that her line continues to evolve and says her success is listening to shoppers and their needs. As trends evolve and change, they make sure to update the classics. They create bags for the women of today without sacrificing what makes it a classic in the first place.

But more than anything, Rebecca feels it’s the customers that make the brand truly thrive. “I love hearing stories about how women say ‘I bought your first bag after I got my first job, or I was going to my first interview and bought or bag.’”

It makes her feel honored to be part of their story. Plus, she ensures customers she’s listening to their stories and feedback. Rebecca may be newer to RHONY but she knows exactly how to ensure that the next 20 years of the brand still represent the women who have made Rebecca Minkoff what it is today.
