Rob Lowe Wants To Return As Owen Strand In 9-1-1: Nashville After Lone Star's Cancelation: "I'm Just Waiting"

Rob Lowe has revealed his desire to reprise his 9-1-1: Lone Star role in the upcoming spinoff show 9-1-1: Nashville. Lowe starred in 9-1-1: Lone Star as Captain Owen Strand, a New York firefighter, diagnosed with lung cancer, who moved to the 126 in Austin, Texas to rebuild the team. 9-1-1: Lone Star ran for five seasons on Fox, and Lowe's arc ended when Owen returned to New York City to become a fire chief there.

Per TV LineLowe revealed that he would be excited about a return to the franchise, and that his brother, Chad Lowe, serves as the executive producer and director on 9-1-1: Nashville, so he is awaiting a call. Lowe stated he'd need to ask his brother about the possibility of a role on the show, before joking that he hired his brother for 9-1-1: Lone Star, so it is only fair that he returns the favor. Check out Lowe's comments on the matter below:

“I’ll have to ask Chad Lowe, my brother. Chad Lowe is the executive producer, director of 9-1-1 Nashville. So I’m just waiting for my phone to ring. I mean, you know, I hired him on Lone Star. I think turnabout is fair play.”

What This Means For 9-1-1: Nashville

The Show Could See Appearances From Other Franchise Characters

9-1-1: Nashville can take the 9-1-1 franchise to another level, with country music playing a prominent part in the show, and there could be crossover appearances from characters in previous shows. 9-1-1: Lone Star teased Owen's death in the finale, only to do an about-turn and reveal that the character had survived, and this opens up opportunities for him to have an arc on 9-1-1: Nashville, should the narrative allow for it.

Owen's 9-1-1: Lone Star storyline was concluded, but it did feel like there was more to come from him, especially due to the fact that the character did not die.

Interestingly, Lowe actually pushed for Owen's death at the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star, so it is interesting that he is open to seeing Owen return in the 9-1-1: Nashville spinoff. The new show will have plenty of opportunities for Strand to appear, and it will be curious to see how the character's life has progressed since then, and what the deal is with his cancer diagnosis. Tim Minear, executive producer on 9-1-1: Nashville revealed that there are no plans for the character to appear right now, but didn't rule it the possibility of an appearance.

Our Take On Lowe's Potential 9-1-1: Nashville Chances

Nothing Is Confirmed, But A Return Could Be A Good Way To Continue Owen's Arc

Minear confirming there are no plans for Lowe to appear right now doesn't mean that this should be ruled out, especially as the actor's brother is involved in the production of 9-1-1: Nashville. Owen's 9-1-1: Lone Star storyline was concluded, but it did feel like there was more to come from him, especially due to the fact that the character did not die. And I suspect there will be the opportunity for Lowe's character to come back at some point, but it will have to be right for the story.
