Sabres & Rangers Talking J.J. Peterka Trade: Report

Buffalo Sabres forward J.J. Peterka has been creating some buzz in the rumor mill as of late with the trade deadline just about here. According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Sabres have had serious trade discussions about Peterka with the New York Rangers.

"I'm told that Chris Drury and the New York Rangers have put a significant offer on the table and had advanced trade discussions [on March 6] with the Buffalo Sabres about J.J. Peterka," Seravalli said. "First-line winger, 23 years old, and we know the Buffalo Sabres aren't interested in futures. They are not looking at first-round picks or prospects. They want players back that could help now and help for the future."

Given that Peterka is a young star who has taken a step forward in his development this season, the Sabres would need a serious return for the 2020 second-round pick. He is too promising of a young player for the Sabres to part ways with unless they get a star back, whether from the Rangers or any other club.

Peterka is having a strong 2024-25 season, posting 18 goals and setting a new career-high with 31 assists in just 58 games. He also needs only two more points to pass his current career-high of 50, which he set during the 2023-24 season.

It will be intriguing to see if the Sabres end up dealing Peterka to the Rangers before the deadline passes from here.
