The New Orleans Saints suffered their ninth loss in fourteen games of the 2024-2025 season in Week 15. The Washington Commanders came out hot, and the Saints could not quite complete the comeback after injecting some rookie power into the offense in the second half.
Spencer Rattler
Rattler played his best football of his young career against Washington. The young QB completed 10 of 21 passes for
He looked composed, confident, and decisive on nearly every play. Of course, there were some bumps, including a potential interception that was dropped by Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu.
That being said, Rattler played arguably the best fourth quarter of any Saints quarterback this season. If New Orleans starts him, they have a great chance to beat Washington, but hindsight is always 20/20.
It's unfair to blame them for starting Haener because he deserved a shot to show out for himself. Instead, he struggled mightily in his half of play, and Darren Rizzi smartly pulled the plug, turning to the rookie gunslinger.
Draft pick
After the Sunday action around the NFL, the Saints are still projected with a top ten pick.
As of now, the Saints sit at tenth in the order. They cannot drop beneath that spots anytime during this week's action. The only way they will move down is if they win in Week 16, and others lose to move up past them.
At 5-9, their focus must look towards next season. It's better to know that sooner than later when it comes to preparations and decisions for the upcoming offseason.
In multiple ways, the Saints learned that Rattler can perform well against a talented defense, and they kept high-end draft capital. It was a successful week for the black and gold, amid the loss.
