Saints bring back home a veteran player in latest move

The New Orleans Saints were busy at the end of the week. They added two players to their secondary, in hopes of additional created depth.

Saints sign cornerback Mac McCain and safety Roderic Teamer

Alongside the additions, the Saints waived defensive end Nathan Latu.

McCain is a depth cornerback, while Teamer is the same role at safety. The latter has plenty of special teams experience.

Teamer returns home to New Orleans

In high school, he attended Brother Martin High School where he lettered three years for the Crusaders. He played linebacker and safety both. For college, he attended Tulane University. Teamer saw four years of action with the Green Wave.

He played in 46 contests for the Green Wave, tallying 197 tackles (128 solo), three sacks, three interceptions, 15 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and blocked two kicks. -- New Orleans Saints website

Teamer has played in 40 NFL games. He is 27 years old.

McCain entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021. The young CB signed with the Denver Broncos.

In his rookie season, he played in two games with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2022, the CB spent the regular season and the entire postseason on the Eagles practice squad. He attended training camp with the Carolina Panthers in 2023.

Neither move is too significant. That being said, depth at safety has been a need for months in New Orleans. Teamer can provide some of that, albeit with a limited ceiling.
