Saints' Chris Olave Organizes Surprise Book Drive for Local Youth: “Football Gave Me a Voice, Now I’m Using It”

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave is proving he’s just as impactful off the field as he is on it.

Earlier this week, Olave quietly launched a surprise book drive and literacy event at a public library in New Orleans' 9th Ward, aiming to provide access to new books and encourage a love of reading among underprivileged children. With little media attention and no fanfare, Olave arrived with boxes of books and a message that resonated far beyond football.

“I didn’t grow up with a lot, but I had people who invested in me. Now it’s my turn,” Olave said during a short speech. “Football gave me a voice — now I’m using it to help these kids dream bigger.”

The event, held in partnership with local nonprofit Books & Beyond, saw over 300 books donated by Olave and his teammates, along with a $25,000 contribution to help fund literacy programs throughout the city. Children in attendance were able to take home books, participate in storytelling circles, and even get autographs from Olave himself.

Community members praised the young star’s humility and consistency, noting that this isn’t the first time he’s stepped up for local causes. “Chris never shows up for the cameras. He shows up for the kids,” said library director Amanda Chase.

As the 2025 NFL season nears, Olave’s commitment to giving back has only deepened his connection to the city he now calls home. In a league filled with stars, his quiet leadership shines just as brightly — and New Orleans has taken notice.
