Saints' playmaker sends strong message to New Orleans' newest coach that will decide his playing time

The New Orleans Saints have hired a new defensive coordinator in Brandon Staley. Kellen Moore's connections in the NFL paid off, and now, Staley will start putting together the rest of the defensive staff with the young HC.

One of the most important players for New Orleans' defense next season has already sent a message to his new coach.

Alontae Taylor's request for Brandon Staley

Shortly after the news broke, Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor shared a request for the new DC in New Orleans.

Taylor seems to be excited for the hire and hopes that Staley will allow him to play to his potential with the Saints. The young defensive back has shown really impressive flashes over the past couple of seasons and projects to start once again next season.

Taylor's role is a bit to be determined, though. Early on in his pro career, he was a slot DB for the Saints defense. He crafted his game on the inside.

Last season, he was a starting outside cornerback for their defense. That process was a bit more inconsistent. Some of the other piece son the back end for the Saints had their struggles, too, so it was not nearly all on Taylor.

No matter what - Taylor has brought energy and aggressiveness to the Saints secondary since he was drafted. He is an emotional leader for the unit, particularly the DB group.

These latest comments follow some intriguing ones from earlier this month, too. Once Kellen Moore was the clear HC frontrunner, he made a request of Moore as well.

We'll see how effective Taylor can be for Staley's unit. No matter what - his upside and potential is clearly notable for the future of the defense in New Orleans.
