Saints rookie corner Kool-Aid McKinstry sends a thoughtful message to Paulson Adebo

Kool-Aid McKinstry will help the New Orleans Saints replace Paulson Adebo, but the rookie is sending a thoughtful messsge to his injured teammate.

The New Orleans Saints’ second-round pick Kool-Aid McKinstry will have a bigger role for the team in the second half of the season. Following a season-ending injury to veteran cornerback Paulson Adebo, the rookie corner will be called on to help replace Adebo.

McKinstry recently spoke with the media about his increased role, and while he’s undoubtedly excited to play more, he did something that really shows his character. The rookie corner started his media availability by sharing some kind words for Paulson Adebo.

First, McKinstry sent him well wishes, then thanked him for being a great teammate. More specifically, he thanked Adebo for the advice he has given him during his transition to the NFL, and now the rookie is letting his veteran know that he has his back, and he’ll be there for him during his recovery journey.

That’s a nice gesture by McKinstry, and it speaks to the bond the players have in the locker room. Now, the rookie corner has to play in place of a person he clearly values.

He went on to express that he’s ready for the opportunity, and that he’s willing to do anything to help the team win. People inside and outside of the building have a lot of confidence in McKinstry. He’s a talented, experienced player, and he has already shown that in his limited snaps throughout the season.

The rookie does have one start under his belt, filling in for Marshon Lattimore in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. It was a glimpse of the future, as McKinstry rose to the occasion to contribute to a dominant outing for the Saints. Now, he’ll be tasked with delivering performances like that on a weekly basis.

Head coach Dennis Allen said that slot corner Alontae Taylor will technically start in place of Adebo, but McKinstry will come in and bump Taylor inside when the defense is in nickel. Considering how much the Saints play nickel, that’ll be the majority of the game. That means McKinstry will have a ton of opportunities to make a name for himself.
