Saints veteran has opportunity to steal crown from Pro Bowl QB

The New Orleans Saints have a notable threat for their red zone offense. It's actually backup running back Jamaal Williams. One stat that brings the veteran RB and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts together is pretty intriguing.

Saints veteran has opportunity to steal crown from Pro Bowl QB

Jamaal Williams ranks 2nd in the NFL in 1-yard TD runs since 2021

Warren Sharp uncovered the statistic, and it's a bit surprising for the Saints running back.

Williams ran for just one touchdown total last year. In 2022, he ran for 17 touchdowns, though. He led the NFL during that season, and he was heavily involved inside the ten yard line during his final year with the Detroit Lions.

For the RB, it will be very tough for him to catch Hurts this season or potentially next.

Even if Williams becomes a key red zone component for New Orleans, Hurts' rushing presence is not going anywhere.

That being said, the new offensive staff in Philadelphia may not use him quite as often to score those TDs from in close. There's always danger for a QB injury on those rushes.

The "Tush Push" is the Eagles' way of running a quarterback sneak where the offensive line comes together on short-yardage situations to literally push Hurts' tush for an almost guaranteed first down, or in this case, a guaranteed touchdown.

Sure, other teams have run the play before, but the Eagles have been successful on over 90 percent of their attempts, while the other 31 NFL teams have combined for a 70 percent success rate. -- Kelsey Kramer, A to Z Sports

All in all, it won't be an easy task for Williams to take the title, but second place is not too shabby at all. We will see how much he is involved in 2024 with new Saints OC Klint Kubiuak calling plays.
