Reinhart Scores In Sudden Death To Even Series With Rangers
In a showdown of Buffalo Sabres prospects at the 2024 Memorial Cup, 2022 top pick Matthew Savoie lived to fight another day, while Vsevolod Komarov and the Drummondville Voltigeurs had their tournament ended with a 5-3 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors in Saginaw, Michigan on Tuesday. The WHL’s Warriors and QMJHL’s Voltigeurs had gone winless in four games against the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit and London Knights and faced off with the winner going on to the semi-final to face the loser of the Knights–Spirit game on Wednesday.
The Voltigeurs fell behind 3-0, came back to tie the game at three before the Warriors scored twice in the final two minutes for the victory. Savoie assisted on Brayden Yager’s empty-net goal, while Komarov led Drummondville with seven of their 52 shots on goal.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, former Sabre Sam Reinhart once again was the scoring star, scoring a power-play goal in overtime to give the Florida Panthers a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday.
Brandon Montour as usual led the Panthers in ice time with nearly 24 minutes and assisted on the game-winner. Former Sabres team captain Kyle Okposo played just 8:02 in the contest but was nearly the hero on a great scoring chance late in the third, but was thwarted by Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin, who made 37 saves in the contest.
Other ex-Sabres:
Dmitry Kulikov – 15:12 TOI
Evan Rodrigues – 16:40 TOI, 3 SOG, +1
In other former Sabres news, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman mentioned on Wednesday’s 32 Thoughts podcast that there is optimism that the Vancouver Canucks and defenseman Tyler Myers will figure out a contract extension before July 1. The 34-year-old former Calder Trophy winner had 29 points (5 goals, 24 assists) in 77 games last season and was in the final year of a five-year, $30 million contract.
The optimism is not as high on bringing back former Sabre Nikita Zadorov. The 29-year-old free agent was a force for Vancouver in the playoffs and according to reporter Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks and agent Daniel Milstein are not talking.
