Couturier appeared on the Nasty Knuckles podcast this morning and said he had surgery for a hernia in his "lower abs."

This injury could explain his struggles late in the season. Hernias are painful injuries that can be felt from the lower back down the legs.

He was healthy scratched for two games, and while injury wasn't the reason for his scratching, GM Danny Briere did say that he wasn't completely healthy.

Rumors about the captain's future with the Flyers have been circulating, but those have seemed to die down. Although his production started reasonably well, with 31 points from October through January, he only had six points in the season's final three months.

As he said in the podcast, Couturier is about to start his offseason training program. Based on that, it sounds like his rehab process hasn't delayed his offseason plan.
