Aho scored his 31st goal of the season on the power play in the first period Sunday night against the Toronto Maple Leads.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho hit the 80-point mark last night for the third time in his career with his power play goal in the first period.
Aho is also just the third player in franchise history to post three or more 80-point seasons along with Ron Francis (5) and Pat Verbeek (3).
The Finnish franchise cornerstone has continued to engrave his name all over the franchise record books, notably also taking sole possession of the third most points in franchise history just one game prior.
"Seeing my name up there among those names is obviously pretty cool," Aho said. "It's something that's not really in my mind daily. I just try to work on my game and win hockey games. But yeah, when I have a little time, I'll probably look back and see that it's pretty cool. That stuff is not in my mind all the time, but you see it every once in a while and it feels good."
The 26-year-old center is just continually getting better and better and he keeps proving that he is one of the league's best and brightest.
But Aho thinks he's still not even close to reaching his potential
"I feel like I still have another level to get to and I just have to keep working for it," Aho said. "I'm a fairly young guy and I still can improve in many areas. That's kind of been my goal all my career and basically all my life."
Aho (31 goals, 80 points) is just three points shy of his career high and with 10 games remaining, he not only has a shot to pass that, but he may even hit 40 goals and become just the second player in team history to reach that milestone.
Regardless, Aho has been everything for this Hurricanes team and I truly believe him when he says his best is still yet to come.
