Tyler Warren has made a strong impression on his new Colts teammates and coaches since the team decided to use the 14th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on the TE.
He's looked the part in training camp and showed off just how big of a weapon he could be in their preseason opener . Head coach Shane Steichen even sees some of a Hall of Fame TE from his past in Warren's game.
Shane Steichen sees some of Hall of Famer Antonio Gates in Tyler Warren's game

Steichen began his NFL coaching career with the San Diego Chargers in 2011 and was on their staff with multiple different job titles till 2020. From 2011 to 2018, Steichen got to watch now Hall of Famer Antonio Gates up close. So, seeing some of Gates early on with Warren feels like one of the biggest compliments a coach could have given.
Even if it wasn't coming from a coach who worked with Gates, that is one of the top-tier TEs that I assume any young TE would love to be compared to. Warren seems like someone who is all business, so I doubt he will let this go to his head. If anything, my guess is that this will serve as added motivation for him to prove his head coach correct. Kay Adams of the Up & Adams show tossed Steichen quite the lob here by asking for one thing he sees in Warren that reminds him of Gates, coach ended up giving four.
"He's got a natural feel for the game.He has an awareness of zones and voids in the defense when he's running routes. But the one thing that'sreally impressive about him is he has unbelievable hands, and when he is out in open space, he is so physical at the point of attack, he's going to lower his shoulder and go after you, and I love that about him." - Colts head coach Shane Steichen
