It looks like Sidney Crosby isn’t going anywhere.
Crosby signed a two-year, $17.4 million contract extension on Monday to remain with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It took Crosby a while to actually agree to a new extension, which had people wondering what the holdup was.
The Penguins are in a weird state where they aren’t necessarily Stanley Cup contenders, but the team has a lot of talented veterans including Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson.
If Crosby didn’t sign this extension and he was looking for a fresh start elsewhere, the Rangers could have been a prime destination for the veteran forward.
While there weren’t any direct rumors linking Crosby to the Rangers, New York has a track record of bringing in veteran star players, so it’s safe to assume they would have been major players in potential Crosby sweepstakes.
However, all those assumptions don’t matter anymore as Crosby looks to be committed to finishing off his career in Pittsburgh.

"Sidney is the greatest player of his generation and one of the greatest players in the history of the game. His actions today show why he is one of hockey's greatest winners and leaders. Sid is making a tremendous personal sacrifice in an effort to help the Penguins win, both now and in the future, as he has done for his entire career."
This past season, the 37-year-old megastar recorded 42 goals, 52 assists and 94 points in 82 games.
Now, Crosby will continue to be a thorn in the Rangers side at least for the next couple of years.
