"Some New Dynamics": 'Chicago P.D.' Star Teases the Aftereffects of the Burzek Wedding on Intelligence
Weddings are a special occasion for many reasons, not least of which is their ability to arouse a range of positive emotions among guests. Witnessing two people get married can evoke strong emotional triggers, reminding guests, especially single ones, of the importance of love. As Chicago P.D. Season 12 nears its finale, the much-anticipated Burzek wedding is finally on the horizon. A new update from one of the show's stars teases that the event will carry the same emotional weight as a real-life ceremony. The union of Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) has been a long time coming, and with the show cementing them as endgame, it also leaves room for the next potential will-they-won’t-they romance to emerge within the Intelligence unit.
Ever since showrunner Gwen Sigan confirmed that Season 12 will feature the long-anticipated Burzek wedding, Marina Squerciati, who plays one half of the beloved couple, has been keeping fans in the loop with exciting behind-the-scenes glimpses. Her teasers have sparked speculation that the final episode, where the wedding will take place, could potentially include a crossover with another One Chicago series. While nothing’s been officially confirmed, the possibility has fans buzzing. Squerciati previously hinted that filming for the finale was near, and now, according to a new update from Toya Turner, who plays Kiana Cook, production may have already wrapped. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Turner offered a touching tease of the big day, saying of Burgess, “She looks beautiful. I cried.”
Romantic subplots have long played a crucial role in Chicago P.D., offering a welcome counterbalance to the show’s typically gritty tone. This season, fans have actively speculated about which new pairings might take shape within the Intelligence Unit. Among the most talked-about possibilities are a potential romance between Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and ASA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues), as well as a budding connection between newcomer Kiana Cook and Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar). While Turner didn’t confirm whether either pairing would come to fruition, her comments suggested that the wedding could serve as a catalyst, leading to “some new dynamics with relationships within the unit.” And as for the finer details? Turner playfully added, “the cake was great."
