Stаte of tһe Roster: Cаrolіnа Hurrісаnes RFAs

The Canes have quite a few players to re-sign.

State of the Roster: Carolina Hurricanes RFAs - Carolina Hurricanes News, Analysis and More

The Carolina Hurricanes have a busy offseason in front of them with both a handful of UFAs and RFAs to figure out new deals for.

We touched on the UFAs the other day, so now it's time to look at the RFAs, starting with the rostered players.

Roster

Jack Drury

24, C
RS:
8 goals, 27 points
PO: 1 goal, 5 points
Previous Contract: Three-year, $925,000 AAV ELC
Years Remaining as RFA: Three
Qualifying Offer: $874,125
Arbitration Eligible: Yes

This season was a coming out party for Drury who not only saw himself finally become an NHL regular but also get spins at 2C and on the power play.

Drury set new career highs in every category, but mostly saw big improvements in his defensive game and on faceoffs.

The Harvard alumni is set for a pay raise, but his stats won't make it one that is too high. He'll be a solid depth player for Carolina for years to come.

Verdict: Extended

Seth Jarvis

22, F
RS:
33 goals, 67 points
PO: 5 goals, 9 points
Previous Contract: Three-year, $894,167 AAV ELC
Years Remaining as RFA: Four
Qualifying Offer: $874,125
Arbitration Eligible: No

This kid is everything to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Jarvis had a breakout year for the Canes this season, breaking both the 30-goal and 60-point marks.

On top of that, he had a role on both the first power play and first penalty kill units and had solid spins on the top line as well.

His endless motor, compete level and drive to improve really shined this season and he set himself up for a sizable pay day.

Oh yeah, and he did all of that with a torn labrum and rotator cuff which he suffered in November.

The sky's the limit for Jarvis and Carolina is going to want to make sure they lock him up long-term. If I had to guess, I'd say the target would be similar to Andrei Svechnikov's eight-year, $7.75 million AAV contract he got coming out of his ELC.

Verdict: Extended

Martin Necas

25, RW
RS:
24 goals, 53 points
PO: 4 goal, 9 points
Previous Contract: Two year, $3 million AAV
Years Remaining as RFA: Two
Qualifying Offer: $3.5 million
Arbitration Eligible: Yes

One of the biggest player decision that has to be figured out this offseason is what to do with Necas.

The speedy Czech winger had another productive season for the Hurricanes, but it was a step down from last season when he had 30+ goals and led the team in points.

Necas' skillset is something that is fairly unique in Carolina as no other player plays the way he does.

He's a zone-entry machine, able to race through the neutral and attacking zone with ease and he's developed a really explosive shot

When the ice opens up, he becomes such a dynamic player and can really showcase that speed and shot.

However, he's also a hot and cold player.

Despite his skill, a lot of plays die on his stick because he too frequently tries to force things to happen. There's also ample concern on his 200-foot game and a lack of physicality/desperation.

There's also the rumored reports that he's unhappy with his current role on the team and is wanting to move on.

But Necas is a player you don't just give up for free and Hurricanes don't even have to trade him. He's still an RFA under team control.

That sort of talent doesn't grow on trees, so while you want to keep him around, if he is moved, it won't be for a depth player or some prospects.

Carolina will want a high-end player in return, someone who can replace his offense while helping keep the Canes' window open.

So keep that in mind when you're putting together your armchair GM proposals.

Verdict: Traded
