After spewing a fiery reply to Cam Newton's controversial comments on Travis Hunter's show about the Carolina Panthers, former Utah and Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr. has explained his reaction in more detail in his latest tweet.
"I've watched & listened from afar as U @CameronNewton talk about @Panthers! None of us are perfect," Smith said.
"Yes, we were 2-14 before you blessed us w[ith] ur presence. The way you have talked about @panthers lately I'm very disappointed. I wish u nothing but the very best. I'm done !!! ✌️," he concluded.
This comes after a clip surfaced online of Newton slandering the Panthers and his teammates on a recent episode of The Travis Hunter Show.
"When I was the first pick, I went into a locker room of losers. Guys didn't know how to win. Guys didn't know how to prepare. It was a culture shock for me," Newton said.
"The games don't mean a lot to a lot of people in the league like you would expect. It's just money. Not everybody has capabilities to be impact players. They're just players," he continued.
Panthers fans in the replies to Smith's explanation supported the Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist for his staunch defense of his former team and teammates, especially since it seems increasingly like an intentional bridge burning from the former Auburn man.
