Takeaways from the Golden Knights shootout loss

The Vegas Golden Knights ended their five-game road trip with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena on Wednesday.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored his team-leading 12th goal goal.

Here are some takeaways from the game:

Hill Saves The Golden Knights

Adin Hill made 33 saves and was again exceptional. Cassidy credited the goalie as the reason they managed to get a point out of Ball Arena.

Hill is 7-2-2 in his last 11 starts with a 2.36 goals-against average.

“I felt like I had a good game out there,” Hill said. “It sucks to come away with a loss, but I think overall, we have to take the positives and got a point in a tough building.”

Tired Legs

The Golden Knights finished a stretch of five games on the road. Vegas traveled approximately 5,200 miles across the country to play these five games.

After a strong first period, where Vegas fired 10 shots on goal, the fatigue started to set in. The Golden Knights only managed to get nine over the final 45 minutes of play.

“We looked tired. We’re at the end of a road trip, and we are tired,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “I’m not going to lie to you. We’ll probably be tired Friday. So we got to find ways to stay in games, and we did [against Colorado].”

Vegas will take Thursday off for Thanksgiving before starting a back-to-back set on Friday and Saturday.

Good Road Trip

Despite the loss, the Golden Knights consider the five-game trip out East to be a successful one. They went 3-1-1 and, outside of a few pockets of bad play, played well in all five outings.

“I thought overall it was a great trip. I think we just kind of had one period in Toronto (3-0 loss on Nov. 20) and one period here where we didn’t play the way we wanted, and that’s the difference in this league, right? If you take a period off, that costs you points. So we’d obviously like to be 5-0, but I think 3-1-1is a pretty good road trip.”
