Here’s a look at all of the Rangers’ upcoming restricted free agents.

Kaapo Kakko:

The situation of Kaapo Kakko is very interesting to say the least.

Kakko was selected with the second overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, but hasn’t lived up to expectations through his first five years in the NHL.

Now the Rangers must decide if they want to give the young forward another chance to prove what he is capable of or just cut ties with him all together.

This past season, the 23-year-old had 13 goals, six assists and 19 points.

“We will see about all the things over here, but I like it,” Kakko said. “Everybody wants to win. I feel here there is a chance to win. Next season will be about the same thing, so I like it here.”

Ryan Lindgren:

Through the past couple of seasons, Ryan Lindgren has really emerged as one of New York’s top defenseman.

From a defensive standpoint, you can make a reasonable argument to say Lindgren is the best as his role continues to increase.

In 76 games, Lindgren had three goals 14 assists and 17 points while averaging 19:21 minutes of ice time.

The 26-year-old will be an important piece in dictating the Rangers success going forward, so New York must make it a priority to retain Lindgren.

“I love it here,” Lindgren said. “It’s the best, I love the guys here. I love the city. I love how the fans are and how much they care about us. I love being here and this is definitely where I want to be.”

Braden Schneider:

Braden Schneider is another defenseman that could be in New York long into the future.

He was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2020 by the Rangers and is one of the team’s more promising young defenders.

The 22-year-old recorded five goals, 14 assists and 19 points in 82 games while averaging 15:53 minutes of ice time.

Schneider seems to be getting better every year, so it will be interesting to see what route Rangers general manager Chris Drury goes in terms of a contract.
