When Teddi Mellencamp announced her divorce from Edwin Arroyave, the divorce documents revealed that she was requesting sole custody of their three children. All of a sudden, there’s been a change of heart. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum just submitted a new filing requesting a different custody arrangement. It’s an update that might make this divorce a whole lot less complicated.
According to legal docs obtained by Us Weekly, Teddi has resubmitted her divorce filing to request joint custody of their kids: Slate, Cruz, and Dove. This aligns with what Edwin requested in his filing, which means there’s at least one thing that these two agree on as they go their separate ways.
The update comes shortly after Teddi’s affair with her horse trainer went public, adding a messy layer to the latest Beverly Hills breakup. However, a source told the outlet that Teddi and Edwin’s main priority has always been their kids.
The Queen and her Corgis
“Edwin and Teddi have always wanted to keep this amicable for the children,” the source explained.
Teddi echoed that sentiment on Instagram when she initially let fans know that her marriage was ending. She said she wanted to protect her family from “undue speculation and rumors.”
“My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter,” Teddi wrote. “I felt being open, honest, and vulnerable was the best path forward.”
Throughout this ordeal, sources close to the family insisted this divorce was a long time coming. Allegedly, they were doomed long before Teddi went trotting off into the sun with the horse trainer. One insider mentioned they had talked about divorce several times over the last few years.
With that in mind, you can imagine they’ve had a discussion or two about how they’d navigate a divorce. By agreeing on joint custody, they’re setting the stage for a clean split.
