THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Shocker: Liam Collapses! Did Scott Clifton Just Deliver What Would Be His Fourth Daytime Emmy-Winning Performance?

Leave it to The Bold and the Beautiful to just when you think nothing new might happen, it delivers a surprise that no one saw coming. That was the case on the Thursday, April 3rd episode of the CBS daytime drama series.

In what often happens in soaps when a major confrontation has disastrous or life-changing ramifications for one of the characters, B&B followed suit in a very dramatic way in the father/son showdown between Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and his son, Liam (Scott Clifton).  The two threw everything but the kitchen sink at each other, dredging up their history with Bill scoring some really low blows on Liam throughout.

Liam is beyond upset to learn that Bill housed the lunatic Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada), the woman who tried to kill Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and murdered two people. He quit his job at Spencer Publications over it, and when Dollar Bill threatens to take away his trust fund, Liam doesn’t care, he tells him to  “Liquidate it!”  Liam says he never wanted Bill’s money. He’d wanted a dad that he could love, but this latest stunt has given him great pause.

Bill needles Liam, “You can’t make it without me.” Liam is stunned by Bill’s action and says, “Do you want to know why I can’t relate to you? It’s because you’re certifiable!” Bill is pissed off and retaliates with, “Do you know who you’re talking to?” Bill screams at Liam that Steffy and Kelly aren’t in any danger because of Luna!

Liam is confused as to what Luna did to Bill to convince him to abandon every principle he’s ever stood for, but that’s because he won’t talk to him. “This is the part where you say, ‘Don’t go, Liam.’ Why can’t you say that?” When Bill doesn’t, it is gut-wrenching for Liam. At one point, Liam gets close to whatever Bill is harboring since he was a child that made him into the man he is today, but Bill close to tears clams up.

When Liam points out that his other two sons have left him – Wyatt left town, and Will (Crew Morrow) went to live with his mother, he still stuck around to earn his respect and for what? Liam says, “I wanted to love you! I wanted to know you, and you won’t let me.”

Bill is sick of Liam’s “Woe is me” attitude all the time and goes in on him that saying, “If you want to leave the company, leave! And don’t come crawling back. Do you understand me?” During the fight, Bill also through in Liam’s face the countless times that he went back and forth between Steffy and Hope (Annika Noelle) and called him, “Mr. Waffle Man.”

An infuriated Bill tells his son that he wants him gone when he gets back as he is late for for a meeting and walks to the front door to leave as Liam suddenly has blurred vision and collapses. However, on the way down to the floor, Liam hits his head on the coffee table!

The episode featured what we now call a, “Scott Clifton special!” Because, if you have watched through the years when Scott delivered one of his three Emmy-winning performances, they contained these very high stakes scenes which have been similar in nature under a completely different set of circumstances. Clifton is the only male actor to win in the Lead, Supporting and Younger Daytime Emmy categories. It should be noted that Don Diamont also delivered as Dollar Bill in these heavyweight scenes between father and son. Could Emmy come to either man in the 2026 competition? Stay tuned.

However, the bigger question is, what is the purpose of Liam going down for the count and bonking his head on the table on the way down? Did Luna drug Liam, as a masterplan to get Steffy away from Finn and back with Liam when she realizes Liam is in dire straits? Will Liam once again as he did years ago have amnesia, (remember Adam?). Could Liam have suffered a stroke and will be unable to take care of himself, or is this the end of the line for Scott Clifton’s character of Liam? Weigh-in on your theories via the comment section.
