The forgotten player in the New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks trade involving Chris Kreider is forward Carey Terrance.
Who’s Terrance and what sort of potential does he have with the Rangers?
Terrance was selected by the Ducks in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft as his offensive skill set is what stood out most about him before being drafted.
“Terrance is an offensive-minded forward who uses his instincts and shot to have a positive impact on the game,” Austin Broad of FC Hockey wrote. I like his ability to get open in the offensive zone, and get into prime shooting position. He has shown an ability to get shot attempts from both the cycle and off the rush which will allow him to play in any kind of system.”
When watching Terrance, his blazing speed is on full display, which has helped him transform into a legitimate scoring threat.
It’s his raw athleticism that can set him apart from others.
“His athleticism puts him on or around the puck often and allows him to be opportunistic,” Scott Wheeler of The Athletic wrote. “I like his effort level. His speed also allows him to beat defenders wide or lose them on cutbacks along the cycle.”
The 20-year-old has spent the past two seasons with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League and recently served as captain of the team, speaking volumes about his leadership abilities.
Terrance is actually from Akwesasne, New York (It’s unknown if he was a Rangers fan growing up).
In both 2024 and 2025, Terrance played for Team USA at the World Junior Championships, winning back-to-back gold medals.
It’s unclear where he’ll play next season, but Terrance should be given a shot to prove himself at rookie camp and training camp with the Rangers and we could very well see him in a Hartford Wolf Pack uniform come October.
