The Indianapolis Colts announced they will add a new member to their Ring of Honor this season, in TE Dallas Clark.
But there's a player on the opposite side of the ball that I think the team needs to be the next player in line to join the Colts' ring of honor.
The Colts drafted Bob Sanders with the 44th pick in the 2nd round of the 2004 NFL Draft. His dominance was apparent when he was on the field; his biggest issue, though, was his struggle to do just that. Sanders never suited up for a full season during his eight-year NFL career.
He only played in double-digit games twice in his career, both of which he was named to the Pro Bowl and a First Team All-Pro in 2005 and 2007. In 2007, he also won Defensive Player of the Year. He was also one of the Colts' defensive leaders during their playoff run in 2006, and he helped the team win Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears.
Talent wise Sanders is arguably one of the best defensive players to ever suit up for the Colts. If it weren't for injuries, he would likely already be in the team's ring of honor, and we'd likely even see him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And while the injuries stole his opportunity to enter the Hall of Fame, I believe the dominance he had when he was healthy, as well as the large amount of support he has within the fanbase, is more than enough for him to have his name among other Colts legends in the team's ring of honor.
