There is one major aspect that is holding up negotiations between the New York Rangers and K’Andre Miller.

Miller is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1 and he’s still without a contract extension.

The Rangers are reportedly hesitant to give Miller a long-term contract which could lead to his departure.

“They don't want to give him term, they've indicated if they sign him to an extension it's not going to be a long-term extension and that's why his name is out there,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.

Miller’s name has been floating out there as a potential trade option practically since the 2024-25 season came to a close.

Larry Brooks of The New York Post reported that the Rangers moving on from Miller seems inevitable at this point.

According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, if Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury can clear enough cap space, the team could look to go after Vladislav Gavrikov, a possible replacement for Miller.

It’s unclear if contract talks have progressed between the Rangers in Miller but as the days go on without an extension being agreed to, the more likely it is that the 25-year-old defenseman parts ways with the Blueshirts.
