There are three clear candidates for who should ultimately become the New York Rangers’ next captain.

J.T. Miller, Adam Fox, and Vincent Trocheck all would be tremendous choices to take over as captain for totally different reasons.

First off, Miller’s hard-nosed attitude and fiery competitiveness is exactly the kind of mindset that needs to rub off on this Rangers core.

While Miller is a polarizing player to some, there’s no denying what he brings to the table in terms of his play on the ice and the win-at-all-costs mindset he brings to the rink each and every day.

The Rangers are in need of a culture shift after everything that transpired last season, and there’s nobody better to lead that charge than Miller.

He has the ability to instill a winning and tough mindset in the Rangers group, which must find its identity.

When the Rangers traded former captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, it was Trocheck who stepped up and took the unofficial role of captain.

Trocheck sort of became the new spokesman for the Rangers.

Whenever someone needed to talk after a difficult loss, Trocheck was always there. Furthermore, whenever a message needed to be delivered, Trocheck was there to deliver it.

It’s clear that Trocheck has already shown he has the tools to be an impactful captain, so there’s no reason he should not be considered.

Fox brings a different leadership presence.

The star defenseman always seems to be cool, calm, and collected, and those are important qualities to have in a captain.

His joyful demeanor is one that both fares well in the locker room and while talking to the media.

On top of all of this, Fox averages the most minutes on the team as he serves a substantial role at both ends of the ice.

The Rangers have yet to name a captain, and it’s unclear if Mike Sullivan is looking to anoint one before the start of training camp in September.

If Sullivan is to name a captain though, he should choose one of these three players.
