The post, which features an image of a remote castle being besieged by walkers, reveals that the show will return to AMC on September 29, 2024. The account also shared the hashtag "TWDCaryl," utilizing the Walking Dead fandom's popular portmanteau for a romantic pairing between Daryl and Carol, the latter of whom was supposed to play a larger part in season 1 before backing out amid pre-production logistics issues.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 Has The Perfect Release Date
Daryl Dixon Returns Just In Time For Halloween
The new season can honor that landmark because, if its six episodes air on the show's regular weekly schedule, its penultimate episode and its finale will bookend Halloween 2024.
This official release date for the upcoming season of the Walking Dead spinoff has it perfectly positioned for the Halloween season. In addition to the fact that the entire month of October leading up to Halloween is a time when horror properties frequently perform well, the holiday is an important milestone for the franchise, as the pilot of the flagship show premiered on Halloween in 2010. The new season can honor that landmark because, if its six episodes air on the show's regular weekly schedule, its penultimate episode and its finale will bookend Halloween 2024.
The Halloween season in 2024 is also somewhat bereft of horror properties in the wake of the 2023 strikes when writers and then actors took to the picket lines to fight for fair pay. With the delay of the upcoming Saw XI to 2025, the only major horror franchises with new installments coming to the big screen this October so far are Terrifier and Smile. This leaves a lot of runway for Daryl Dixon season 2 to dominate the horror sphere on the small screen.
Terrifier 3 is set to premiere on October 11, followed by Smile 2 on October 18.
It seems that the stars may be aligning for season 2 to be even bigger than season 1. In addition to this perfect timing for the new season's release, the return of Melissa McBride to The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon cast gives the spinoff show a new angle designed to appeal to longtime fans. This, in addition to the fact that Daryl has been a fan-favorite character for quite some time, likely all spells good news for the return of the zombie show.
