John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Michael Pezzetta of the Montreal Canadiens made contact during a preseason game and Tavares took the worst of it.
He ended up leaving the game early with a leg injury and, of course, Leafs fans were very worried about the potential outcome of this. After the game, Tavares admitted that he was feeling stiff and that he told head coach Craig Berube that he wanted to continue and perhaps get some short shifts in. However, Berube sat him down for the rest of the evening.
'My leg was getting pretty stiff from the hit I took there in the first. It wasn't so bad afterwards but kind of throughout the second and especially in the third it just got really, really stiff and I didn't have much. I told Craig I was just going to keep him short, but I think he just determined to give me the rest of the night off.'
Today, on the injury report, Tavares was listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Alex Steeves and Calle Järnkrok received the exact same injury designations. Ultimately, it has been a tough start to training camp for the Leafs. Although we're sure things will get better once the regular season starts and everyone gets some rest.
For now, it seems like all of these players will be good to go in time for the regular season. However, you never want to see some good players go down with these kinds of ailments. We are hoping for a quick recovery for everyone involved.
