Dancing With the Stars pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are known for their grace on the ballroom floor — but at home, life is anything but choreographed. The beloved couple recently opened up about the reality of raising three young boys at once, and they aren’t sugarcoating it.
“It’s difficult,” Maks admitted in a recent interview. “There’s chaos, there’s noise, there’s very little sleep — but there’s also so much love.”
Peta, who gave birth to their third son earlier this year, echoed her husband’s sentiments, calling this chapter of their life “overwhelming in the best and hardest ways.”
Three Times the Love, Three Times the Challenge
While the couple has long dreamed of having a big family, the reality of managing three under the age of five has come with challenges they didn’t fully anticipate.
“Someone always needs something,” Peta shared. “A diaper change, a snack, a cuddle… and sometimes they all need it at the exact same time.”
The dancers revealed that their days now revolve around tag-teaming bedtime routines, soothing tantrums, and sneaking in moments of rest — when they can. They also admitted that their relationship has had to adjust, with communication and patience becoming more vital than ever.
Leaning on Each Other — and a Lot of Coffee
Despite the exhaustion, Maks and Peta are doing their best to stay grounded and connected. They’ve learned to find joy in small victories — a successful nap, a quiet dinner, or a rare moment of silence.
“We’re not perfect,” Maks said. “Some days we argue. Some days we just sit on the couch and laugh because everything feels like a beautiful mess.”
Peta added, “We remind ourselves that this is just a season. It’s intense, but it won’t last forever. And these boys are our whole hearts.”
A Dance of Real Life
As two of the most recognizable faces in the dance world, Maks and Peta have built careers on rhythm and precision — but parenthood, they say, is the wildest routine of all.
“There’s no choreography for this,” Peta joked. “You just learn the steps as you go.”
And though the road isn’t always smooth, one thing is certain: Maks and Peta wouldn’t trade this whirlwind for anything.
