Titans biggest remaining roster hole revealed - quynhlong

The Tennessee Titans have tried to fill holes in the roster via free agency and the draft so far this offseason, and they've done a decent job, but there are still a couple of areas that could use some added depth, especially in the secondary.

ESPN recently listed the biggest remaining roster hole for every team in the NFL, and safety was listed as a potential problem area for Tennessee. Following some recent departures, the quality of depth at the position could be a question for the Titans.

"The Titans entered 2023 without much safety depth behind Kevin Byard III and Amani Hooker. Then they traded Byard to the Eagles and let Terrell Edmunds, whom they got in return, walk in free agency. Right now, former cornerback Elijah Molden is penciled in as the free safety next to Hooker. There's very little depth behind them: seventh-round pick James Williams out of Miami and Mike Brown, who has been on and off practice squads for four franchises in a two-year NFL career."

This is a pretty accurate analysis. The Titans are undeniably thin at the safety position, even after drafting James Williams in the seventh round of the '24 draft. They made a major splash at cornerback by trading for L'Jarius Sneed, but the safety spot could use an upgrade.

What can the Titans do?

One potential open for the Titans to solidify the safety spot is bringing back Terell Edmunds, who the team received in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. Edmunds appeared in nine games for the Titans after the trade, and recorded 20 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception. Edmunds is currently an unrestricted free agent as he has yet to sign elsewhere.

Edmunds is already familiar with the organization, and he could probably be signed for a reasonable rate. He's an experienced veteran who could potentially play big minutes for the Titans if they decide to bring him back.
