*“Southern Charm” star Venita Aspen is pushing back against how the show portrayed her, accusing producers of manipulating the timeline to make her look like a “homewrecker.”
Aspen took to Instagram Stories on Saturday to clarify that scenes between her and Jarrett “JT” Thomas were aired out of order. She claimed that had she known Thomas was in a relationship, she wouldn’t have continued flirting with him, Page Six reports.
“Let me make something VERY CLEAR,” she wrote. ”That dinner JT and I had after I made a Branzino was AFTER the Bahamas y’all as an audience saw it BEFORE. So this week’s episode is now making me look like I’m a home wrecker [sic] when I’m not.”
She added, “I know what I signed up for but I also will not allow the world to think I’m that woman when I’m not.”
The February 6 episode showed Aspen and Thomas sharing a dinner where they acknowledged their chemistry—until Thomas admitted he was seeing someone.
“Do I know we had chemistry? Am I extremely attracted to you? Yes,” he told her, before adding, “But, I’m just being real, I’m seeing someone.”
Aspen later addressed the situation in a confessional, explaining, “I won’t say I knew he had a girlfriend, I can say I knew he was talking to someone but it wasn’t a ‘this is who I’m dating.’”
She also expressed frustration, saying, “I’m equally part angry and equally part sad, ’cause how long have we been flirting?”
The season follows the cast on a trip to the Bahamas, where a teaser shows Aspen excitedly telling friends she’d been receiving long messages from Thomas.
On Nick Viall’s “The Viall Files” podcast, Aspen also revealed that when the Season 10 trailer dropped, she was attacked online by Thomas’ girlfriend.
“We dated, I guess, for like two months,” she explained. “And then the super-teaser drops and this woman decides to annihilate me on social media.”
“That he was dating, that I was unaware of. And basically, like, calls me out on my name. And I was just like, ‘Hey, I don’t what’s going on with this. I need you to put a handle on it.’ And he was like, ‘I can’t do anything about it.’”
