Walking Dead classic scenes: Rick burns Lucille and more great scenes featuring Negan

Negan is portrayed by actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is well-known for his roles in Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural, and many more.

The Walking Dead series concluded in 2022, and throughout its eleven-season run, many memorable scenes rank as some of the best for viewers. Viewers can always rely on fan-favorite Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) for vastly entertaining scenes.

Episode 812 of The Walking Dead, "The Key," written by Corey Reed and Channing Powell, who would eventually become the showrunner ofTales of the Walking Dead, was directed by SFX guru Greg Nicotero. The episode synopsis reads: Hilltop's leadership faces a difficult dilemma after the arrival of unexpected visitors; Rick comes face to face with an adversary.

This episode introduced Georgie (Jayne Atkinson) and her body guards Hilda (Kim Ormiston) and Midge (Mistry Ormiston). This is the same Georgie who eventually convinced Maggie to join her in her efforts to establish new communities. This episode also saw Simon (Steve Ogg) begin his plan to take over as leader of the Saviors, which ultimately led to his demise.

One of the best segments of this episode is where Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) play a game of cat and mouse inside an abandoned building. While Rick hunts Negan down, the leader of the Saviors makes him an offer, if Alexandria, Hilltop and the Kingdom fall in line, they will only need to provide him with a quarter of the supplies, down from the standard half, if Rick works at the Sanctuary as a janitor.

This is where Negan learns that someone killed the Scavengers, and he not only knows who but also realizes none of the Saviors are coming to save him. The classic scene video below showcases the clip where Rick finds Lucille, and he taunts Negan, who shouts back, "Don't you touch her!"

Rick sets the bat on fire with Glenn's (Steven Yeun) lighter and tells him to come and get it as he proceeds to knock out the door, holding walkers back. He beats the walkers, which causes them to catch fire, and the fight continues. Negan does recover his beloved weapon and escapes out a window. By the end of the episode, Negan finds himself being held at gunpoint by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh).

Nicotero explained how they used SFX to create the burning Lucille in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2018.

"Some of the Lucille fire stuff, we coated the bats with a special material. We’re able to physically light it on fire. When, for a few shots, we had to make contact with the bat, we had a bat that basically had an orange glow stick as part of it so that we can get the interactive light. We wanted to stay close and we wanted it to be disorienting."

The Walking Dead classic scenes video

The Walking Dead YouTube channel features many of these classic videos. The one above was a Negan-centric video, which included several other classic Negan scenes listed below.

In season 9, young Judith (Cailey Fleming) held Negan at gunpoint. This was when he was trying to escape Alexandria, and as always, these two characters have an interesting conversation.

Viewers also see the season 7 scene in which Rosita (Christian Serratos) shoots Lucille. Negan loses his mind while many of our survivors look on in fear. He also discovers someone has been making homemade bullets.

Also featured is the season 7 scene in which Negan talks to Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) after he saves her from being raped by David (Martinez). This is the scene where Negan tells her she has some "beach ball-sized lady nuts."
