AMC's critically acclaimed noir drama Dark Winds has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. The series premiered its first season in June 2022 and the second in July 2023. Dark Winds has been renewed for a third season, and Fear the Walking Dead's Jeana Elfman and The Walking Dead's Alex Meraz join the cast.
The series is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman. Created by Graham Roland, known for his work on Prison Break, Lost, and Fringe, Dark Winds follows the story of Navajo Tribal Police Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, played by s Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon, respectively. John Wirth (Hell of Wheels, Hap and Leonard) serves as showrunner and executive produces with Roland, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis and Anne Hillerman.
Set in the Four Corners area of the American South West in the 1970s, Dark Winds chronicles, Leaphorn, Chee, and Sergeant Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) as they investigate crimes that challenge their spiritual beliefs.

The expanded eight-episode season 3 will begin six months after the previous season's events. Leaphorn & Chee, with only an abandoned bike and blood-stained ground as clues, investigate the disappearance of two boys. In her new position with Border Patrol, Manuelito tries to acclimate to her new role 500 miles from home.
Dark Winds season 3 premieres exclusively on AMC and AMC+ beginning March 9, 2025.

This season, Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg, Fear the Walking Dead, Shifting Gears) joins the series as FBI Special Agent Sylvia Washington, and Alex Meraz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Walking Dead, Landman) as Border Patrol Agent Ivan Muños.
Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher, The Resident) joins as Tom Spenser, with Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C., Blue Beetle) as Budge, and Tonantzin Carmelo (La Brea, The English) Border Patrol Agent Eleanda Garza. Additionally, Terry Serpico (Law & Order SVU, Yellowstone) as Border Patrol Senior Chief Ed Henry, Derek Hinkey (American Primeval, Americana) as Shorty Bowlegs, Phil Burke (Hell on Wheels, Rabbit Hole) as Michael Halsey, and Christopher Heyerdahl (Under the Banner of Heaven, Hell on Wheels) as Dr Reynolds also join the cast. In a guest starring role, A. Martinez (Longmire, Days of Our Lives) will portray Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena.
